John ‘Bucky’ Buckley, the global community manager for Palworld, has been quite vocal about his latest obsession: the hit Steam game Megabonk. This roguelike, reminiscent of Vampire Survivors, achieved over a million sales in just two weeks. Bucky’s journey with the game, however, has reached its conclusion. After an impressive 47 hours of gameplay, he has achieved a 100% completion rate. He shared this momentous news in a recent online update, reaching out to the game’s rapidly growing community, as evident from SteamDB’s statistics.
Citing his success, Bucky declared, “Megabonk gamers, it is with great pleasure that I report… I have bonked, and I have bonked HARD.”
Alongside this proclamation was a screenshot showcasing his 102 achievements.
Bucky didn’t stop there; he further praised the game by declaring it “Game of the Year” and even tagged Geoff Keighley, known for hosting The Game Awards. It seems he wants the game’s creator, “vedinad,” to take home the award. “Geoff, lock it in,” he added, making his intentions clear.
In an unexpected turn, the game’s developer responded to Bucky’s enthusiastic announcement with an equally amusing and warm message: “Well bonked, John Palworld.” This playful exchange caught Bucky’s attention, leading him to respond, “Thank you, King,” coupled with a humorous bowing emoji, seemingly in deference to the creative mind behind Megabonk.
Bucky’s adventure with the game may not be completely over just yet. In a subsequent update, he mentioned experimenting with a world record run just to experience it. He shared a screenshot of his leaderboard placement, where he ranked at #774.
“I tried a world record run, just to see what it is like. Epilepsy aside, it was fun, but I’ve never been a fan of playing meta builds in most games anyway, so I’ll hang my hat up here! 774 baby!!!”
He reflected, “Epilepsy aside, it was fun,” indicating a mixed experience, but ultimately, he’s not overly invested in meta strategies. While it sounds like he might be wrapping up his time with Megabonk, it wouldn’t be surprising if he returned to boost those scores, considering his dedication thus far. After all, what’s another 47 hours of gameplay?
Bucky isn’t alone in his admiration for Megabonk. The publishing director of Baldur’s Gate 3 joins him, along with many enthusiastic players, praising the game, which has now eclipsed titles like Call of Duty, Borderlands 4, and Marvel Rivals on the charts.
Recently, Megabonk has introduced a patch that significantly alters the final swarm mechanics, addressing community feedback. Players noted that the previous meta required them to wear sunglasses and endure a slideshow light show at a framerate of 1.5 for five hours to attain a world record.
