Grinding Gear Games has been facing challenges since the release of Path of Exile 2. Early players of Path of Exile feel sidelined as the developers concentrate on the sequel, and the latest update for PoE 2 has resulted in a significant backlash on Steam.
Although a new class was added, a series of balance adjustments have frustrated the community. One Steam user expressed their discontent, stating, “How do you have a relatively good first patch then wait three months, nerf everything, and make the campaign a worse experience?” Currently, the 11,502 recent reviews reflect a “mostly-negative” sentiment.
Players generally feel the game has become overly sluggish. One user, who was excited about the new patch, shared their disappointment, stating, “I’d rather just go into work than play this game right now,” as noted in their written comment. Earlier updates were described as “build-destroying,” making for a challenging early-access experience for the action RPG.
“There were some blatant f**k-ups, speaking bluntly,” remarked game director Mark Roberts in an interview while speaking with streamer Zizaran, as referenced by Kotaku. Players leaving negative feedback have pointed out issues such as nerfing player characters and their companions while increasing the resilience of enemies, which has amplified the grind during combat.
Fortunately, the developers are attentive to player feedback and have quickly implemented some adjustments, with further modifications coming soon. They plan to enhance monster speed to reduce player overwhelm and tweak several boss encounters to restore balance. Additionally, the minion revive timer will be altered, allowing players to bring their minions back into battle more promptly, rather than waiting the current 7.5 seconds.
It is hoped that these upcoming adjustments will satisfy players and improve the overall feedback scores. As noted by the CEO of Helldivers 2, games that suffer such severe review-bombing “do not generally recover.”
