Combining a sledgehammer with a drone has led to a game-breaking glitch that has frustrated players of Battlefield 6. In a matter of days, this bug has evolved from a quirky exploit to rendering Breakthrough almost unplayable on certain maps.
With a launch as significant as Battlefield 6, it’s not uncommon to encounter a few issues within the first month. Players often discover various exploits that might initially escape notice—this one allows gamers to literally take to the skies.
The sequence is straightforward: spawn a drone, stand on it while it remains on the ground, and then strike it with a sledgehammer. This maneuver propels you upward. Continually hitting the drone allows you to ascend further, providing a bird’s-eye view of the map below.
Players Soaring to New Heights
The movement saga in Battlefield 6 has reached unprecedented levels as players exploit this glitch to glide above the clouds. Many are pairing the exploit with sniper rifles to take out targets from high above.
This scenario may sound amusing; however, the fun diminishes significantly when you’re on the opposing team. Maps like Manhattan Bridge, Cairo, and Sobek City have become particularly challenging in Breakthrough mode. In this gameplay type, one team must hold their position against the advancing forces of the other, with victory going to the side that gains the most ground.
It’s incredibly frustrating that so many maps are currently unplayable in Breakthrough due to these exploits. Players have shared their exasperation, noting instances where entire squads occupy elevated positions on Manhattan Bridge. GG.
Members of the defending team are claiming the high ground and easily eliminating anyone who dares to approach. This situation creates a stalemate, as these players become nearly impossible to hit. YouTuber and streamer Moidawg tweeted a screenshot showcasing two teams hovering above Manhattan Bridge, dramatically changing the flow of the match.
Another content creator, Stodeh, pointed out that the drone exploit isn’t the sole concern, suggesting that a more profound reevaluation of map design is necessary. “Players are accessing unreachable rooftops and shooting down at objectives without any means to counter,” he remarked. “Even if the drone glitch gets patched, ladders in some areas can still be used.”
Community Reactions and Calls for Action
The player community is rapidly demanding a hotfix for this glitch. “This is basically cheating by getting onto inaccessible roofs in game modes like Rush and Breakthrough,” one user posted on Reddit. “While measures are taken against inappropriate names and chat behavior, this issue isn’t being addressed, and it doesn’t make sense.”
Another Reddit user expressed, “At first, it was amusing, but I’m now encountering it in nearly every Breakthrough match. Full squads equipped with respawn beacons, ammo support, and long-range weapons are positioned on buildings and bridges that shouldn’t be accessible, allowing them to manage battles single-handedly.”
Proposed solutions range from banning the sledgehammer until a patch arrives to imposing temporary bans of just a few days. “I predict this will only escalate until it gets fixed or disabled,” one player warned.
Given the existing evidence, I tend to agree. As we saw in Revenge of the Sith, having the high ground is critical, and EA and DICE might need to step in to stop more players from trying to emulate Obi-Wan Kenobi while leaving everyone else to play the role of Anakin Skywalker.
The former campaign lead for Battlefield 6 expressed his disappointment over not being fairly credited in the new FPS, despite working “tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years on building the foundation.”
