The age-old adage about money suggests that while it can influence many aspects of life, it’s often a source of stress for most. However, for Pocketpair, the studio behind Palworld, financial strains appear to be a distant concern, thanks to their substantial financial influx.
During the recent GDC 2025, John “Bucky” Buckley, the community manager for Pocketpair, shared insights with GamesRadar+. He humorously stated that the studio has a somewhat “poor” grasp on financial management. Yet, the impressive revenue generated by Palworld allows them to take considerable financial chances.
“We are somewhat inexperienced in this area,” Bucky remarked. “As a young studio, a significant portion of our funding gets reinvested into the company for hiring new talent and scaling operations to meet growing demand.”
In a light-hearted moment, he added, “Regarding publishing, we haven’t established any budgets yet. We plan to keep investing until we sense it’s time to pause and evaluate our progress.”
“We’re the type of company that gets excited about innovative concepts. It’s only when we see the bill that we realize the financial implications,” he elaborated.
Fortunately for gamers, Pocketpair’s tendency to spend liberally is turning into a win for players. Their newly formed publishing division is shaping up to be a beacon for indie games, recently unveiling an appealing truck simulation game that promises to draw players in for hours.
“I don’t mean to brag,” Bucky said, “but we find ourselves in an enviable situation where exploration and risk-taking are within our reach. Our CEO possesses remarkable insight, and even if our expenditures exceed prudent levels, I trust that we’ve saved enough to sustain operations for some time.”
“Within moments of Palworld’s launch, we were flooded with game proposals from some prominent figures in the industry, even before we had set up our publishing arm: ‘No one has money at the moment.'”– John Buckley
