Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod Brings Pokémon Flair to the Wild West
It’s been seven long years since Rockstar Games captivated us with the epic world of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018. Yet, that hasn’t stopped dedicated fans from enriching this action-adventure masterpiece with some outrageous mods—like the latest one that infuses a touch of Pokémon magic into the game. If you haven’t checked it out yet, content creator and former software engineer Blurbs has truly hit a home run with this one. This isn’t his first foray into wild modding; he previously wowed us with a real-life version of Oblivion Remastered’s persuasion minigame. But this time, he’s cooked up something even more impressive: a Pokémon-style overhaul for Red Dead Redemption 2.
In his latest YouTube video, Blurbs hilariously details the transformation, presenting it as a way to turn Red Dead Redemption 2 into a “legally distinct” animal-catching RPG. It boasts custom move sets, types, and, yes, Gym Leaders—who are none other than the infamous Van der Linde gang. If you’re wondering what kinds of creatures you can catch, prepare yourself; curious players can capture a wide array of animals, including turtles, skunks, dogs, horses, and even fish (though, sadly, no Magikarp here).
But wait, there’s more—legendary beasts await as well, including majestic elks showcased in Blurbs’ gameplay footage. The mod hilariously merges elements of Nintendo’s vibrant universe with Rockstar’s immersive storytelling, resulting in a mashup that you didn’t know you needed until now. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see their favorite cowboy characters embark on adventures as Pokémon trainers?
Blurbs is gearing up to release this mod for public enjoyment, although he advises that he’ll need some time to tidy up the code first. An important note from the creator: this mod functions best alongside streaming software. While it technically runs without it, you’ll need OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) installed for optimal performance. Currently, a firm launch date is yet to be confirmed, but you can definitely expect an announcement once everything is ready to go.
