The long-anticipated strategy game set in the Star Wars universe, developed by a team of former XCOM creators, has officially been unveiled as Star Wars: Zero Company. This announcement arrives right before a detailed revelation at Star Wars Celebration in Japan, which is set to occur later this week. EA has delivered the first substantial update regarding the highly awaited Star Wars project since it was initially hinted at quite some time ago.
In today’s announcement, details remain sparse, sharing mainly the game’s title, a piece of artwork highlighting six characters, and a confirmation that it will be “a single-player turn-based tactics game.”
The accompanying artwork features a clone trooper alongside a Mandalorian, indicating that the game is likely set during the Clone Wars period within the Star Wars narrative.
The illustration also showcases an astromech droid, an alien Jedi wielding a lightsaber, a human (or humanoid) figure in a sealed space suit, and a mustached individual observing a holographic image of a battle droid, underscoring the anticipated Clone Wars backdrop.
A “world-exclusive first look” at Zero Company is scheduled for April 19 during a panel at Star Wars Celebration, with participants including Lucasfilm Games, Respawn, and BitReactor. This event will also feature the unveiling of the second DLC pack for Star Wars Outlaws.
The collaboration between Respawn and BitReactor to develop a Star Wars strategy game was initially announced back in 2022; however, it wasn’t until 2024 that it was confirmed that the game would embrace a turn-based tactics format, leveraging the developers’ expertise from their work on XCOM.
