The eagerly anticipated survival MMO, Dune: Awakening, will keep players waiting a bit longer as developer Funcom has just announced a delay of three weeks for the game’s release. The team believes this extension will help them polish their ambitious project, which will now launch during a busy time for the gaming community, coinciding with the excitement surrounding the Switch 2 and the Summer Game Fest 2025.
In an official statement shared on social media, Funcom indicated, “We will be moving the release date of Dune: Awakening to June 10, with head start launching on June 5. This is not a decision we take lightly; we know everyone is very excited to get playing, but these three extra weeks will give us the time needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one.” Read the full announcement.
Dune: Awakening is expected to debut on PC first, with versions for PlayStation and Xbox to release at a later, unspecified date.
The previous launch date had been set for May 20, with early access starting on May 15. The new early access date falls on June 5, aligning closely with the launch of the Switch 2, while Summer Game Fest kicks off on June 6. This timing places Dune: Awakening among several high-profile releases in the gaming arena.
Funcom explained that the delay is partly due to the insights they’ve gained from the ongoing closed beta. The studio stated, “Thanks to this process, we’ve concluded that with a bit more time to cook, we can act on a lot more of the feedback we know is important to our beta testers.”
A larger beta weekend is planned for May, which will provide “even more” players with the opportunity to test the game prior to its official launch.
“Dune: Awakening is a beast of a game,” the developers remark. “This is multiplayer survival on a massive scale, and we’re making gameplay and technical strides not seen in the genre before. We want to make sure we stick the landing.”– Funcom
We hope that the game will be worth the anticipation. In the meantime, players can take a few more weeks to enjoy some of the best survival games currently available.
