Rockstar Games has stirred excitement across the internet with the release of its inaugural trailer for GTA 6. Following this electrifying debut, however, the developer has remained surprisingly quiet about the highly anticipated title. This isn’t merely typical of Rockstar’s secretive nature; there’s a clear strategy at play. The corporate parent, Take-Two, is intentionally building anticipation ahead of the game’s launch, suggesting that the next glimpse of GTA 6 could coincide closely with its release.
This insight comes from Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, who recently spoke with Bloomberg regarding the blockbuster project. “The level of anticipation for this title may be the greatest I’ve encountered in any entertainment sector, and I have considerable experience,” Zelnick stated concerning GTA 6. This sentiment may very well hold true, considering the game’s initial trailer has amassed nearly 250 million views, attracting countless fans who have waited over a decade for a sequel to GTA 5.

“I have experience across various entertainment sectors,” Zelnick added. “We aim to keep the excitement and anticipation alive.” He mentioned that while some competitors tend to advertise their games years before they release, Take-Two believes that a more reserved strategy will foster greater hype. “We have observed that it’s more effective to share marketing assets closer to the release date to maintain excitement while balancing it with anticipation. We don’t always hit the mark perfectly, but that’s our approach.”
Previously, Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6 is slated for a release in the fall of 2025, which raises the question of what Zelnick means by “close” when discussing marketing. Regardless, it seems unlikely that we will see a new trailer before the summer, which might not be a bad thing—there’s no need for excessive previews of GTA 6 prior to its launch.
The publisher’s reluctance to disclose details about the game leading up to its release might create challenges for other developers planning releases in the near future. Many publishers are reportedly wary of GTA 6’s launch date and are considering delaying their titles to avoid competing with it, as GTA 6 is likely the most significant draw for consumer attention and spending within the industry.
Take-Two’s CEO asserts that AI users who believe they can simply command, “Create the next GTA 6”, are mistaken: “The significant creative advancements will be driven by human input.”
