The acclaimed bullet hell roguelite Vampire Survivors has encountered a setback regarding its upcoming update for PlayStation 5 and PS4. Developer Poncle has announced that the anticipated cross-save feature has been delayed due to “a legal issue.”
Poncle previously indicated that this cross-save functionality would be available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and mobile devices later this month with the release of patch 1.13, which the team touted as “probably the biggest free update we’ve ever done.” During the initial announcement, Poncle emphasized the complexity of this feature, stating, “Even with substantial support from the different platforms, factors such as security, traffic, privacy, and platform policies have made this process quite lengthy.” Although it was already known that the Nintendo Switch would not receive this feature alongside other platforms, it has now been confirmed that PlayStation users will also face delays and may lose the feature altogether.
“At [the] last minute, we’ve run into a legal issue on PlayStation we weren’t aware of that requires us to share info on our partners that we’re unable to,” Poncle stated on Twitter. “The chances of cross-save coming to PlayStation consoles are now very slim but not impossible, so we’re going to keep working in collaboration with PlayStation to address these challenges.”
Poncle expressed, “We’re so sorry to build up any anticipation for this feature on PlayStation only to change plans at the last minute.” However, he assured that the cross-save feature is still on track for release on PC, Xbox, and mobile devices “in the next few weeks.” As for the Switch, it is set to receive the feature “at a later date,” as well as “Apple Arcade if we can do so without breaching any privacy commitments.”
As of this writing, there is no specific release date for update 1.13, though indications suggest it will likely be available toward the end of the month, in line with the planned cross-save launch for the other platforms “in the next few weeks.” Last year, Poncle had released a roadmap for Vampire Survivors, but the details can be quite difficult to interpret.
