Persona 6 fans have been eagerly anticipating the next mainline entry in the stylish JRPG series for nearly a decade—it’s hard to believe, but the Japanese version of Persona 5 made its debut back in 2016. Thankfully, the game’s producers have thrown us a lifeline. The very first Persona game hit the scene almost 30 years ago, and that milestone presents a perfect opportunity for a grand celebration next year. In a recent interview with 4Gamer, translated by Gematsu, producer Kazuhisa Wada shared that the team is “preparing a wide variety of initiatives on a global scale” to honor Persona’s 30th anniversary.
Wada also hinted at what lies ahead: “Additionally, we believe there will be opportunities in 2026 to talk about future developments for the series.” He reassured fans that “preparations are steadily coming together,” and the Atlus team is committed to generating excitement around Persona, urging everyone to keep supporting them.
Atlus reveals that “several projects are in development” beyond the Persona 4 Revival, with aspirations for the JRPG series’ milestone anniversary to allow fans to “enjoy the series even more.” Many are left wondering if this could be the moment we finally hear about Persona 6.
The director of Persona 5 and Metaphor mentioned that he hasn’t been “super involved” in the Atlus JRPG series since the enhanced Royal edition of Persona 5 launched. However, there’s still plenty to look forward to, especially with Persona 4 Revival, which the team claims is “shaping up nicely.” Yet, this remake isn’t merely about adding more content; the developers emphasized the importance of crafting “an experience that’s enjoyable in a new and different way.”
Producer Atsushi Nomura added, “Counting back to Revelations: Persona, which first released in 1996, the Persona series will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026.” He extended his thanks to those who have supported the series over the years and those who are just now discovering it. “I hope to make it a year in which Persona can reach even those who have not yet experienced it. I’d love for us to build the excitement together with everyone.”
As for what the future holds for this beloved franchise, it seems like we might have to wait until after the launch of Persona 4: Revival, an upcoming remake of Atlus’ classic 2008 RPG—though it currently lacks a release date. In the meantime, why not dive into the very best JRPGs available right now?
