Before Microsoft formally announced that Xbox titles would be available on additional platforms—including the initial wave featuring Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves—the speculation around Starfield making its way to PS5 had already been widespread. Despite the upcoming releases of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Forza Horizon 5, and Doom: The Dark Ages on PlayStation, there continues to be no definitive information regarding Bethesda’s latest RPG transitioning to the platform, although Phil Spencer has not dismissed this possibility.
Tom Warren, an editor at The Verge, revealed during an visit to The Xbox Two podcast that the release of Starfield on PS5 was initially anticipated much earlier. He noted, “They were originally going to do it with that expansion, and then I don’t know what happened there,” while mentioning the Starfield Shattered Space expansion launched in September 2024. With a second expansion expected this year, according to Todd Howard, the podcast speculated that it might coincide with a PS5 launch, with Warren stating, “They have been working on it for a while, so it should be ready.”
As the podcast progressed, attention turned to another significant rumor regarding ‘Xbox on other platforms’, specifically the potential for Halo: The Master Chief Collection to arrive on Nintendo Switch and PS5. However, Warren suggested that the reality could differ when Halo launches on various systems. He mentioned, “I don’t know if it’s going to be [the] collection,” leading to a questioning from co-host Rand al Thor 19, who asked, “not like the collection as it exists right now?” Warren replied, “I wouldn’t think of it [as] every game,” but then clarified that, “[that’s] probably the most I can say on it.”
Warren subtly alluded to possible content by recalling, “you remember I reported on the CE stuff,” referring to a rumored remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Consequently, it seems that for the foreseeable future, Xbox and PC platforms will remain the exclusive vacations for all Master Chief adventures, including ODST and Reach—a disappointment for PlayStation players, as ODST is highly acclaimed.
Bethesda has recently assured fans that there are “a lot of exciting things planned” for Starfield this year.
