After its recent transition to Among Us 3D, the non-VR variant featuring cross-play with virtual reality players is set to launch next month.
Initially announced in February, Schell Games is reworking Among Us VR for flat screen devices under the new title, Among Us 3D. This version preserves the immersive first-person viewpoint from the VR game while introducing cross-platform multiplayer functionality between PC users and VR players, all available for a price of $9.99. Although a specific launch date was not disclosed at that time, it has now been confirmed that the PC edition will officially launch on May 6.
This news comes on the heels of last week’s rebranding of Among Us VR for several platforms including Meta Quest, SteamVR, PlayStation VR2, and Pico. While the title Among Us 3D is used for Meta Quest and Pico versions, both the PS VR2 and Steam releases have been designated as Among Us 3D: VR. This is likely to clarify the distinction between the two versions, as both Steam and PlayStation 5 accommodate both flat screen and VR games.
The recent rebranding also introduced a new in-game currency known as Stardust, which the developers at Schell Games indicated would assist in “supporting the expansion of the game.” Additionally, a new in-game shop was added via the Wardrobe that includes 30 fresh cosmetic items. More cosmetics are expected to be rolled out through a ‘Powered by Wishlists challenge’, which is contingent on the number of wishlists for Among Us 3D on Steam.
Moreover, Schell Games has announced that the Tag Mode will be a permanent feature and will include a new role known as ‘The Infected.’ Upcoming updates are also set to introduce new tasks, additional collaborations, and more exciting content, as highlighted in the recent Among Us 3D Roadmap.
Among Us 3D will be available on PC starting May 6, and it can currently be accessed separately on SteamVR. It is already available on Quest, PlayStation VR2, and Pico.
