The physics-driven sandbox game Besiege, where players design intricate war machines, is set to receive a virtual reality remake next month for the Quest platform.
Originally debuted in early access a decade ago, with its full version launching in 2020, Besiege from Spiderling Studios is undergoing a comprehensive rebuild specifically for Meta Quest headsets. In this engaging title, players construct a variety of siege engines that encompass everything from traditional catapults to tanks and massive mechs. The game comprises a campaign with 50 distinct levels, allowing players to demolish castles, engage in battles against armies, and wreak havoc on unsuspecting villagers. Additionally, three sandbox areas are available for players to experiment with their creations freely.
3R Games, known for titles like Thief Simulator VR: Greenview Street and their upcoming project Cave Crave, is at the helm of development for this Quest version. While Besiege VR retains the core mechanics of the original PC game, it will not feature the expansions launched after the original game, such as The Splintered Sea. It’s uncertain if any additional content will be introduced after the game’s initial release.
“With sound re-engineered for a fully immersive 3D experience, haptic feedback for each impactful interaction, and a newly designed user interface tailored for seamless VR construction, the world of Besiege invites players to devastate it piece by piece,” explained Piotr Surmacz, CEO of 3R Games, in a formal statement.
Although 3R Games has branded this project as a remake, Besiege VR will also allow users to transfer their creations from the PC version to the Quest platform. However, the developers caution that “not all sizes and features of machines will be fully transferable to VR” owing to hardware constraints.
Launching on the Meta Quest this May, Besiege VR will be available for a price of $20 and will include four exclusive skin sets for those who opt for pre-orders.
