Maru VR’s early access PC VR survival game, Bootstrap Island, has introduced an array of dynamic weather features along with new creatures in its latest update.
Players find themselves stranded on a mysterious desert island tasked with sourcing food, water, and defensive tools in virtual reality. This significant update adds varied weather conditions, imposing challenges on essential tasks such as cooking and hunting. Players must now contend with fierce rainstorms that extinguish fires, unpredictable lightning strikes that elevate the risk of injury, and strong winds that threaten to damage crucial shelters.

In addition to sporadic storms, the weather update unveils new crafting options including palm leaves and roof-building, as well as new wildlife, such as lizards and frogs, which players can catch and consume, alongside huntable warthogs. The warthogs, however, pose a greater challenge, often attacking players without provocation and frequently appearing in groups both day and night.
“Our goal with Major Update 3 was to make the world of Bootstrap Island feel even more alive and immersive,” said Rein Zobel, the Creative Director of Bootstrap Island. “The Dynamic Weather System doesn’t just add realism – it forces players to think ahead, adapt, and truly engage with the environment. Every storm, every gust of wind, and every drop of rain can impact your survival.”

This weather-centric update is the third major enhancement for the early access game. Previously, in November, Bootstrap Island introduced an imposing ape boss and a perilous new jungle locale. This earlier update also rolled out features like food spoilage mechanics, a day counter, and speed-boosting Boots.
Bootstrap Island is currently available in early access on Steam and Viveport, with a complete release anticipated for late 2025.
