Sid Meier’s Civilization VII VR has officially launched on Quest 3 and 3S, priced at $60. Some users have reported experiencing stutters during gameplay, but a potential solution has been identified.
Developed by Firaxis Games and ported to virtual reality by PlaySide Studios, Civilization VII VR marks the inaugural VR adaptation of this popular turn-based strategy franchise. It offers immersive environments alongside mixed reality capabilities. However, since its release this morning, several players have encountered performance problems.
With a current rating of 3.3 stars based on nearly 35 user reviews, many initial users are experiencing a stuttering issue when shifting their head. Reports from both players and content creators indicate that this problem can lead to motion sickness, particularly worsening in mixed reality mode and during interactions at the in-game table.
Notably, this stuttering issue does not seem to be experienced by all players. Among the two UploadVR staff who have sampled the game, one faced the issue while the other did not. A potential workaround has been suggested. According to Ruff Talk VR, adjusting the tracking frequency in the Horizon OS settings from Automatic to 60 Hz under the Movement Tracking tab may alleviate the stuttering. However, results may vary, as some players have reported other issues related to tracking that are not connected to stuttering.
Though UploadVR did not obtain pre-release access for review of Civilization VII VR, our detailed review will be available soon, alongside a livestream of the gameplay on our YouTube channel.
You can purchase Civilization VII VR for $60 at the Meta Horizon Store for Quest 3 and 3S.
