Sid Meier’s Civilization VII VR is set to launch on the Quest 3 and Quest 3S platforms on April 10, with a price tag of $60.
Unveiled in February, Civilization VII VR marks the series’ first foray into extended reality (XR), which has been a staple in the strategy genre since its inception in 1991. In this immersive entry, players can observe the game from a bird’s-eye view and lean in to explore the intricate details of each structure and unit, reminiscent of a traditional board game.
The gameplay offers flexibility, allowing participants to engage in mixed reality or fully immerse themselves in a virtual environment shaped by their selected leader’s theme.
Alongside single-player modes, Civilization VII VR features online multiplayer options, allowing up to three additional players utilizing the Quest 3 or Quest 3S devices to engage in competition.
Additionally, the game introduces “The Archives,” a dedicated VR gallery where players can delve into their accomplishments, showcasing dioramas and displays that celebrate key milestones achieved within the game.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has shown a keen enthusiasm for the Civilization franchise. “I’d be surprised if anyone in the world could beat me at that,” he has previously remarked.
Players eager to take on the challenge can already secure a preorder for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII VR through the Meta Horizon Store, with the official release scheduled for April 10.
