An exciting update for Inter Solar 83, identified as alpha version 4.6, has introduced asteroid mining, a playable 8-bit game, and additional features.
For those who may not be familiar, Inter Solar 83 is a first-person open-world PC VR space exploration experience developed by Joe Chisholm of First Time Games, known for his previous work on Go For Launch: Mercury. Initially showcased in 2023, the game invites players to venture into the depths of space by commanding their own spacecraft. The latest alpha update is currently available to Patreon subscribers, building upon the previous month’s update.
One of the significant enhancements allows players to mine asteroids located in the rings of gas giants. This new feature utilizes a fully procedural generation system that encompasses the entire gas giant. Players can use a newly introduced mining laser, which integrates into a fresh inventory collection system. According to Chisholm, these developments will “pave the way for more expansion of the inventory and crafting system” in future updates.
Additionally, a new 8-bit game named ‘Captain Splarn’ can now be accessed via the computer onboard your ship, developed exclusively for Inter Solar 83. Other enhancements include a revamped cargo console, improved planet graphics, updated models, increased detail in the cockpit, new sound effects, and much more.
The closed alpha version of Inter Solar 83 is available through the developer’s Patreon, while a free PC VR demo can be found on Steam.
