The studio behind Into Black has shared information about its forthcoming PlayStation VR2 adaptation, promising a “complete visual transformation” from the version on Quest.
This action/exploration VR title, which has drawn comparisons to Deep Rock Galactic, originally debuted on Meta Quest hardware in October. In our initial impressions, we noted it as “an authentic sci-fi experience filled with engaging gameplay mechanics and a decent story that can be enjoyed solo or cooperatively”.
The Binary Mill, the developer, announced plans to port Into Black to PlayStation VR2 back in January. Recently, they have elaborated on the differences that the new version will have compared to its Quest counterpart.
“Leveraging the capabilities of the PS VR2 hardware, we’ve managed to transform the world of Into Black into a truly next-generation experience,” the studio details.
A significant upgrade will be the introduction of real-time shadows, which will include those produced by your flashlight and the flashlights of your co-op partners.
Into Black will also utilize the HDR displays of PlayStation VR2, enhancing the experience with HDR lighting and “volumetric effects”.
However, improvements are not limited to just lighting. The Binary Mill has completely redesigned the cave environments, achieving “much higher geometric density” alongside enhanced texture and detail resolution.
To enrich the immersive experience, the PS VR2 version will feature “significantly” increased flora and fauna populating the caves.
“When you combine all these enhancements with higher resolution, eye-tracking foveation, and a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, you’ll have the most polished, visually striking version of Into Black to date,” the studio teases.
Visual upgrades aren’t the only enhancements being made for the PlayStation VR2 version of Into Black. The game will incorporate the head rumble feature of PS VR2 and utilize the adaptive triggers on the controllers for heightened haptic feedback.
“Experience the effect of every pickaxe swing and the recoil of a shotgun blast. Get knocked back by a strike from a gigantic rock golem, or by an errant grenade throw from a teammate.”
While there isn’t a confirmed release date for Into Black on PlayStation VR2 at this time, players can already wishlist it on the PlayStation Store.
