No Man’s Sky: RELICS introduces paleontology within today’s update, allowing players to excavate ancient alien life forms.
Now available across all platforms, the newest No Man’s Sky update permits players to uncover the fossilized remains of extraterrestrial beings that once roamed these planets. Hello Games has confirmed that RELICS enables players to sculpt and dig into the terrain of each world, bringing prehistoric bones of different sizes and rarity to the surface. Any missing fossils can also be purchased from a specialist located at the space station, and players are free to exhibit these artifacts as they see fit.

Not all locations are safe for excavation. Certain areas are guarded by perilous creatures that may be disturbed during your digging efforts, such as Stone Ghosts and the colossal Stone Golems. Additionally, new species like the skeletal Titan Worm have been introduced. The RELICS update is paired with a community expedition where players compete to discover the rarest finds.
“We wanted players to feel like true palaeontologists. When new bones are discovered, Travellers can piece them together to their own design. They can even create their own museums, or share their collections with other players,” stated Hello Games in a prepared statement.
Today’s release represents the second significant content update for No Man’s Sky this year, following the Worlds Part 2 update in January. That update introduced expanded solar systems featuring new gas giants, larger oceans, diverse terrain types along with different weather phenomena, enhanced visual lighting, and much more.
No Man’s Sky: RELICS is currently accessible on SteamVR, PlayStation VR2, and other flat-screen platforms.
