The immersive Titanic VR experience, initially available on PC VR and PlayStation VR, is set to make its debut on Quest 3 and Quest 3S next month.
Launched in 2018, Titanic VR first hit the market on Steam, the Oculus Rift Store, and the original PlayStation VR, utilizing the capabilities of gaming PCs and PS4s to allow users to relive the historic sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912 from the perspective of a survivor, along with the chance to explore the shipwreck via a submarine in present-day.
Developed by Engage XR, previously known as Immersive VR Education, the team is also behind the Apollo 11 VR experience, which first released on early PC VR platforms back in 2015.
While Engage deemed Apollo 11 suitable for the original Oculus Quest, they initially postponed releasing Titanic VR on standalone headsets due to the challenges posed by its vast number of NPCs and the intricate 3D model of the ship. However, advancements in technology have now changed that perspective.
Engage has stated it’s “pushing the limits” of the XR2 Gen 2 chipset found in Quest 3 and Quest 3S to deliver the complete Titanic VR experience in standalone mode. The first footage showcasing the submarine component running on Quest 3 has been shared and can be viewed above.
Titanic VR will be available on the Meta Horizon Store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S starting April 14. You can wishlist it now. While the pricing for the Quest version is yet to be disclosed, the PC VR edition currently retails for $20 for reference.
