Today, Secret Base and Modus Games have released Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The game is available now on the Xbox Store and supports Smart Delivery and Optimized for Xbox Series X|S.

We are excited to bring back the iconic Double Dragon franchise with some new and exciting features. One of the key additions is the ability to play as 13 different characters, each with their own unique moves and special attacks. Our main goal was to ensure that each character offers a different playstyle and combat strategy. They not only have different stats but also diverse moves that set them apart.

Let’s take a closer look at these fighters and their moves in the launch trailer below:

Initial Characters

When you start the game, there are four playable characters to choose from, including the fan-favorite Lee brothers, Billy and Jimmy. Billy is known for his swift and flexible kick attacks, while Jimmy deals more damage with his strong fist attacks, although he moves slower. Joining them is Marian, who utilizes long-range attacks to cause chaos with her police training. However, she struggles in close combat. Thankfully, Uncle Matin, a former military man, is there to step in with his shield and unleash massive damage. After the battle, he enjoys a calming cup of tea.

Each character has three special moves that can be triggered once your SP meter is filled. These powerful attacks deal heavy damage and can be a lifesaver when facing a swarm of enemies. For example, here are Uncle Matin’s special moves:

  • Shield Slam: Unleashes a powerful shield strike, stunning nearby enemies.
  • Charge Bash: Charges forward with the shield, bowling over anyone in the way.
  • Sword Toss: Throws his shield like a boomerang, hitting and damaging multiple enemies.

Sub-Bosses

In addition to the initial characters, there are nine unlockable characters in Double Dragon Gaiden that can be purchased from the token shop using in-game currency. The first set of unlockable characters are the sub-bosses:

  • Abobo: Relies on his massive strength to pound, slam, and punch enemies in close combat.
  • Burnov: Utilizes his wrestling skills to execute powerful moves such as smacks downs and Bad Breath.
  • Linda: Attacks enemies from a distance with her deadly whip, delivering punishing blows.
  • Chin Tai Mei: Masters batons and uses speedy spins, rolls, and somersaults to overwhelm opponents.

Bosses

The next set of unlockable characters are the bosses:

  • Lady Okada: A master of the katana, she strikes fear into her enemies with her devastating close-range attacks and precision strikes from a distance.
  • Duke: Embracing his animalistic side, Duke performs agile moves like the Charging Cougar and Vanishing Condor, making him a formidable rush-down fighter.
  • M.G. Willy: Armed with his machine gun and military equipment, he shoots and hits hard, always keeping a few tricks up his sleeves.
  • Anubis: Wielding a powerful staff, he prefers to strike enemies from a distance, utilizing teleportation, confusion tactics, and lightning strikes.

The 13th Character

Lastly, we have the 13th playable character. However, it’s a secret, and we don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’ll have to play Double Dragon Gaiden to discover this mysterious person for yourself.
