Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Faces Setback as Office Suffers Devastating Fire
After finally solidifying its Q1 2024 release window and dealing with a recent hacking and leak incident, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, the highly anticipated survival horror shooter, has encountered yet another obstacle: a devastating fire.
No one was harmed in the fire that broke out in one of the three floors occupied by GSC Game World in their office building in Prague. However, reports suggest that the fire may have compromised the team’s backup servers.
According to Vortex and HazzadorGamin, the fire occurred on Thursday night and caused significant damage before it was extinguished.
GSC Game World’s Mol1t confirmed the incident in a response to concerned questions from fans on the game’s Discord channel. “Fortunately, none of the employees or office staff were injured in the accident. A fire broke out in our offices in Prague on Thursday. Even though the fire was successfully put out, one of the office floors now requires a full restoration. Further details of the accident are still being investigated,” Mol1t stated.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Earlier, GSC Game World had announced that Russian hackers had gained access to and leaked test builds and other stolen materials related to Stalker 2. The team urged fans not to view or share the leaked content to preserve the experience of exploring the game’s Zone.
Despite these setbacks, Stalker 2 remains one of the most highly anticipated games of 2023 and has the potential to become one of the best FPS games of the year.
