Deep Silver has revealed a new VR game, Metro: Awakening, which is set to be released on PS VR 2, Oculus Quest, and Steam VR. The game was announced during Sony’s State of Play event and is being developed by Vertigo Games, the same team behind 7th Guest.
Metro: Awakening revealed at State of Play
Metro: Awakening is set in 2028, five years before the original game and novel. Players will take on the role of Serdar, a doctor living in the metro tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow. His mission is to find his missing wife and the cure for her illness, embarking on a dangerous journey through mutants, hostile survivors, and supernatural occurrences. The game will also delve into the mystery of Serdar’s supernatural abilities, foreshadowing the character he will become.
Metro 2033, released in 2010, was based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel and followed the journey of protagonist Artym across the Moscow Metro. The original game was later followed by Metro: Last Light in 2013 and Metro: Exodus in 2019. Although it’s unclear if Metro: Awakening will directly tie into the existing games, it aims to bring the atmospheric storytelling of the series into the immersive world of VR.
Deep Silver and Vertigo Games have not announced a specific release date for Metro: Awakening, but the game is expected to be released sometime this year. Fans can wishlist the game on all three platforms as they await further updates.
