Recent interviews with game director Carrie Patel reveal that Avowed, the highly anticipated role-playing game from Obsidian Entertainment, will share similarities in size and structure with the studio’s previous RPG, The Outer Worlds.
During a conversation with TechRadar Gaming, Patel shared insights into the scope of Avowed and offered comparisons to The Outer Worlds. She mentioned that players can expect a similarly vast experience in terms of length and breadth in Avowed.
According to Patel, Avowed will feature a world segmented into multiple open zones, much like The Outer Worlds. This approach allows each area to have a unique character and aesthetic, offering players varied environments to explore.
For example, Patel highlighted the contrast between Shatterscarp, a desert with rocky highlands, and Emerald Stair, a lush, green forested area. The use of open zones not only provides distinct environments but also creates a sense of spread and distance between different parts of the game world.
The release of Avowed is expected on current-gen Xbox consoles, PC, and Xbox Game Pass in late 2024.
