What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 25th)

Ahhh there is so much new out there that I am doing what I always do and retreating back into replaying some familiar favourites for the 1000th time.

I went back to my Layton playthrough after that Direct announcement got me all kinds of giddy and I have been struggling to put it down. I’m currently on The Spectre’s Call and I must say, it still slaps. Speaking of which, the Switch’s GBA library is filling me with joy after I thought I’d pick up The Minish Cap for “just a few minutes” and now I’m four temples deep without showing any signs of slowing down — damn, might this just be my favourite game ever…

I also decided to go back and have another crack at Skyward Sword HD after putting it down for a little while — because that’s something that a person with a huge back catalogue would do, right? It’s treating me a little better this time, though it’s still not top-tier Zelda for me.

I’d like to finally get Fire Emblem Engage behind me this weekend, but if I’m being honest, I’m more likely to start replaying another game instead.

I’ve finally decided to holster my arm cannon for the time being with Metroid Prime Remastered; I’ve completed the game twice now on Normal and Hard difficulty, so I feel suitably satisfied.

So with that done, I’ve started a new game on Stardew Valley, and this might be the fifth or sixth time I’ve decided to do so. I don’t know why, but I really struggle to stick with it. I’m hoping something will click with this latest attempt, because it’s such a lovely world to get lost in.

Over on the Series X, I’m currently playing through Psychonauts 2 again. It’s simply one of the best 3D platformers in recent years; I absolutely love it.

There’s really only room for one game this weekend, and for a while probably — Octopath Traveler II. This is pretty much made for cosy nights in bed with the OLED, isn’t it? Though admittedly, the stories are a little bit darker this time around. I suppose that’s what Temenos is there for. A sassy, sarcastic cleric makes for a hilarious and interesting character it turns out.

Don’t worry, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is still on the go, and with Chrono Cross’ recent patch, I’ve been checking into that on and off, if only to listen to Yasunori Mitsuda’s incredible soundtrack. Yasunori Nishiki (Octopath’s composer), however, might give Mitsuda a run for his money. Seriously, go listen to these Octopath Traveler II samples.

Metroid Prime Remastered’s final boss is proving to be as big a nuisance as it was in the original game. I promised to finish the game on stream and I will keep said promise this weekend. Octopath Traveler II is here in all its HD-2D glory and while I look forward to delve into this new world, the old world of Sylvarant continues to allure in Tales of Symphonia Remastered. Did you know that all skits are fully voiced in the Japanese dub? That adds a lot of personality to the main roster.

Game of the week is Xenogears. Because I am not already playing enough JRPGs on Nintendo systems, I decided to revisit this incredible PS1 classic. But now I realise the journey to slay God is 50+ hours. With so many new games out every week, why do I keep doing this to myself?

We hope you enjoyed reading! Let us know what game you’ll be maining in the poll above and leave a comment with your gaming plans for the weekend!
