Playing offline is simple, really. You just need to make sure you actually have the game installed in the first place. Thankfully, this vast and varied open world is all packed into a tiny 1.3GB package. This means that even if you have absolutely terrible internet connection, you can still get your hands on it. It wouldn’t even be too taxing on a data plan.

Once you have the game booted up, you simply need to start your game, open up your worlds list and make sure that the Start Server option is switched off. This won’t make it public and means it can only be found if you share the name and password.

If your PC is already offline, you don’t need to worry about losing any progress. All data is stored locally and can be saved and accessed even when no connection is available.

Why play Valheim offline on PC?

When you play offline, a few things become available. One of the most important is the ability to use the developer mode. This allows you to debug the game and enter into god mode. You can spawn enemies, items, resources, and anything else you desire. You can fly, become invincible, teleport, and change the time of day, among many other things. We have a whole guide here.

Another reason to play alone is just for the peace and quiet. This retro-looking game has some beautiful vistas you can climb your way to, take in, and have a sip of mead.
