To unlock the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley, players need to complete a really long list of Bundles or give a lot of money to JojaMart.

Unfortunately, you only get a short cutscene with Willy where you learn that you can now pan ores and minerals from bodies of water (rivers, lakes, ponds). However, he never explains how you are supposed to do it. He just gives you the Copper Pan and leaves you to it.

You might have seen a sparkling sprite in the water during the cutscene, but it isn’t there anymore when you go back.

To use the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley, you just need to left-click (Use Tool button) the sparkling spot that randomly spawns on bodies of water that you saw during the Willy cutscene with the pan equipped.

How to Get the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley

To get the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley and start panning for ores and gems, you will need to complete the Fish Tank Bundles. This means that you will have to become a master fisherman and catch almost all the fish in Stardew Valley.

You can also get the Copper Pan by buying the Panning community development if you are a JojaMart member for 20k g.

If you’ve done either of those things, the Glittering Boulder next to the Mines will be removed. Head over to the Mines to get a cutscene with Willy that will give you the Copper Pan.

How to Use the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley

Now that you removed the Glittering Boulder, you will start finding random spots on lakes, rivers, and ponds that are shimmering. Small little white lines will appear over a tile over bodies of freshwater.

To use the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley, approach the shimmering spot and press left click (or the Use Tool button) to interact with it while holding the Copper Pan in hand. This will start an animation where your character moves the Copper Pan in their hands for a bit.

These shimmering tiles can randomly appear as you are minding your own business around you. They don’t spawn at the start of the day, and if one appears near you, you will also hear a sound as if something was dropped into the water.

Using the Copper Pan requires no Energy, which makes this a really good method to get basic ores, gems, and resources while traveling through Pelican Town.

You can also place the Copper Pan on your head and wear it as an accessory. You just need to drag it over your hat slot in the inventory.

Complete List of All the Items You Can Get Using a Copper Pan in Stardew Valley

When you use the Copper Pan to get items, you will always get two types of items: an ore and a resource. You also have a slight chance to get the Lucky Ring as extra loot. Also, if you use the Copper Pan on Ginger Island, you can also get as extra loot a Fossilized Tail (at the Dig Site river) or Taro Tuber.

Here are all the ores you can get using the Copper Pan in Stardew Valley, along with their loot percentages:

  • Copper Ore – 40%
  • Iron Ore – 35.9%
  • Gold Ore – 23.1%
  • Iridium Ore – 1%

Alongside one of those ores, you will also get one of these items:

  • Coal – 50%
  • Omni Geode – 26%
  • Earth Crystal – 4.9%
  • Frozen Tear – 4.9%
  • Fire Quartz – 4.2%
  • Diamond – 2%
  • Amethyst – 1.6%
  • Aquamarine – 1.6%
  • Emerald – 1.6%
  • Ruby – 1.6%
  • Topaz – 1.6%

Based on your daily luck, the chance that you will get Copper Ores and Coal will decrease, and the chance to get Iridium Ores and Diamonds will increase. You can also use food buffs to increase your luck and get higher chances of getting Iridium Ores and Diamonds.
