THQ Nordic Wants to Make an Alan Wake 2 Physical Version

Remedy Entertainment announced that the digital version of Alan Wake 2 is the only version of the game that will be released. However, THQ Nordic has offered to create a physical version of the game for consoles and PC. The publisher expressed interest in the Alan Wake franchise and stated that it would “love” to be involved again after handling the first game’s disc version for PC.

Remedy not planning disc release

Despite THQ Nordic’s eagerness to create a physical version, Remedy stated that they have “no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc” currently. THQ Nordic highlights that “there is plenty who still [love physical games]” and implies that the company should reconsider. This news may be disappointing to some fans of Alan Wake who prefer physical copies of video games.

The decision to make the game digital-only caused disappointment for some players who still prefer physical media. Nevertheless, Remedy notes that a majority of players have shifted to digital games. GamesIndustry.biz’s report from December 2022 found that 94% of game sales were digital for 2022. However, those figures still leave a significant portion of players who prefer physical media.

Remedy states that one reason they made the game digital-only was to keep the cost at $59.99/€59.99 on PS5. Some players have stated that they would pay $70 for a physical version, specifically a limited collector’s edition of the game.

Although there will be no physical version available at launch, a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game will be available for $79.99/€79.99/£64.99. This version of the game will include an expansion pass (Night Springs Expansion and Lake House Expansion) and several other digital items.

  • Expansion Pass (Night Springs Expansion and Lake House Expansion)
  • Nordic Shotgun Skin for Saga (Part of the Expansion Pass)
  • Parliament Shotgun Skin for Alan
  • Crimson Windbreaker for Saga
  • Celebrity Suit for Alan
  • Lantern Charm for Saga
