Innovative city-builder game Dice Legacy has won Gamescom 2021’s “Most Original Game” award. The game is a dice-based experience that puts “controlled randomness” into every facet – from generating people to the tasks they’re given to the available resources.
In Dice Legacy, the dice represent your people, beginning as Peasant Dice. You can choose which tasks they do and which faces to lock, as well as assign them to different classes that can do specific jobs. You’ll need to protect your people as winters come and raiders invade your land. Growing your population and enhancing technology increases potential, but resources become rarer and you must manage them well. Lessons learned from previous attempts can be used in future playthroughs.
To advance, players build structures and upgrade technology. Each structure will serve the kingdom by enhancing resources. Other challenges include managing happiness, pass policies proposed by the council, upgrading dice, researching forbidden technologies, and discovering secrets. These challenges are magnified in the Definitive Edition, with additional scenarios, DLC, and gamepad support now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
The player must balance the riches and risks of ruling any kingdom, and take care of defenses, resources, and population. When everything works well together, you will be prepared to face any challenge that comes your way.
