Minion Rush reaches tenth anniversary with over 1 billion installs

Minion Rush Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary with Exclusive Rewards and Limited-Time Events

Minion Rush, the popular Despicable Me IP-based mobile game, celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a line-up of limited-time events and exclusive in-game rewards. Paris-based video games publisher Gameloft partnered with Illumination and Universal Games and Digital Platforms for the milestone event, promising immersive challenges and so much more.

In-Game Events and Exclusive Rewards

As part of the anniversary event, players are set to help the Minions carve Despicable Me protagonist Gru’s face into the moon’s surface, which requires collecting oxygen tanks, hammers, and the necessary parts to build a rocket and a laser. Additionally, limited-time events like the Minion Rush World Tour, which includes “globe-spanning banana collecting” across different countries like Indonesia, Mexico, and Italy, are available for players to join and explore.

Partnering with Universal Orlando Resort

Moreover, to celebrate the upcoming Villain-Con Minion Blast attraction to open at Universal Orlando Resort soon, the game also gets an in-game experience in its honor to showcase the promotion’s utility in promoting external products and services through mobile games.

Over 1 Billion Downloads

Minion Rush is a free-to-play running game with in-app purchases available for both Android and iOS platforms. Its titular Minions caught the mobile gaming world by storm, resulting in over a billion downloads across platforms – the first mobile game to reach such a milestone with a movie IP. The game even received multiple awards in its decade of operation, including the BAFTA Kids’ Vote Game Winner in 2013 and Favorite App in the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for 2014. It was also nominated for Favorite Mobile Game at the 2016 Annual People’s Choice Awards.

Minion Rush’s 10-year anniversary is a remarkable achievement, particularly in the ever-changing mobile gaming landscape. Interview with Anton Prydatko, Arcaea creator, discussed the mobile gaming environment’s changes over the years, such as monetization methods and screen aspects.
