The Indian Mobile Gaming Market Set to Reach $8.6bn by 2027

According to a new report by MoEngage, a marketing intelligence firm, the Indian mobile gaming market is expected to be valued at $8.6bn by the end of 2027. This significant growth is based on research conducted by AppsFlyer and AppTweak, two leading firms in the industry. Currently, the market is valued at around $2.6bn, so this predicted increase indicates a substantial uptick in the coming years.

Trends in the Indian Mobile Gaming Market

The report highlights several emerging trends in the Indian mobile gaming market. One of the notable findings is the popularity of social casino games and hypercasual titles compared to casual games. While the data is limited to AppsFlyer customers, it reveals that social casino and casual games were almost equally popular at their peak during the Covid pandemic in early to mid-2021. However, casual game installations dropped significantly and have yet to recover.

The revenue trend follows a similar pattern, as social casino and hypercasual titles continue to generate high revenue, while casual games experience a considerable decline in revenue. This aligns with AppsFlyer’s own research earlier this year, which reported a 32% increase in hypercasual game installations.

Potential in India’s Gaming Market

Although AppsFlyer and AppTweak customers represent a small portion of India’s gaming market, which is projected to have over 630 million mobile and PC players by 2026, their findings reflect broader trends. The report also indicates the growing popularity of real money gaming and casual genres. However, it’s worth noting that “hardcore” titles like BGMI have achieved significant success in the region, suggesting a divide in audience preferences based on demographics and genres.

In response to the report, Oothria Raj, the director of business in India at AppsFlyer, stated, “We are currently in the golden age of mobile gaming. This industry has experienced unprecedented growth and popularity. Even as the post-pandemic ‘new normal’ emerged, the overall usage of mobile gaming has seen a significant surge. While this market is highly competitive, there are unique challenges that game brands need to address. We hope that this report provides actionable insights that can be advantageous for mobile gaming companies.”
