Twitch Introduces New Content Classification Labels for Streamers
Twitch has recently unveiled new content classification labels to assist streamers in categorizing their content more effectively, particularly mature content.
These new labels will enable viewers to make more informed choices when browsing through Twitch. The labels will replace the current mature content toggle, which could be applied or removed at any point during a broadcast.
The classification FAQ section elaborates on what falls under sexual themes, specifying that activities like kissing or licking a microphone are considered sexual, while many ASMR practices focus on mindfulness and are non-sexual.
It’s important to note that this update does not involve changes to Twitch’s Community Guidelines. If streamers incorrectly apply a label to their stream, they will receive a warning via email; however, suspensions will not be issued for inaccurately labeled streams.
The new content labels include the following:
- Mature-Rated Games
- Sexual Themes
- Drugs, Intoxication, or Excessive Tobacco Use
- Violent and Graphic Depictions
- Significant Profanity or Vulgarity
- Gambling
According to Twitch, these labels will help protect younger viewers and assist advertisers in targeting content better. Content labeling has become standard across the media and entertainment industry to enhance safety and provide crucial information to advertisers.
Streamers can effortlessly integrate the new labels into the existing go-live flow by using the “Edit Stream Info” model in Stream Manager. Similar to tags, the labels can be added or removed during the stream to relevant segments. However, it’s essential to remember that any labels still applied at the end of a stream will carry over to the next stream unless manually removed.
