Diablo 4 Unveils Six Ultra Rares
Discover the surprise of Diablo 4’s six ultra-rare items that were previously unknown to players. As expected, the game revolves around battling evil and relentlessly pressing buttons to defeat waves of enemies. The ultimate goal is to acquire better equipment such as pants or a sword that surpasses your current gear.
During the initial weeks of Diablo 4, players began questioning the existence of certain items. Notably, beloved classics like The Grandfather and Harlequin Crest (Shako) seemed to be missing. However, a few lucky individuals, all with level 100 characters, managed to obtain Harlequin Crest. This sparked confusion, raising questions about how rare these ultra-rare uniques truly are and when they drop. Is there more to discover?
Blizzard Addresses the Mystery
Adam Jackson, the Lead Class Designer for Diablo 4, took to Twitter to provide answers to players’ burning questions about these coveted items. Firstly, it was confirmed that the six ultra-rare Uniques do exist, but acquiring them requires an enormous amount of luck. These items can drop from enemies at level 85 or above, anywhere you can find regular Uniques. Additionally, they always drop at a remarkable 820 Item Power. It’s important to note that they are extremely rare.
Understanding Uniques
Uniques represent the pinnacle of gear in Diablo 4. What sets them apart is their specific affixes, as opposed to random ones. Moreover, their powers and passives cannot be transferred to other gear. They are undeniably the most formidable items in the game, offering a combination of exceptional abilities and stats. However, their rarity makes obtaining them a daunting task, leading some players to believe they were either bugged or not included in the game until reaching the endgame.
The Six Ultra Rare Uniques
Let’s take a look at the six coveted Uniques:
- The Grandfather (Two-handed Sword): Increases Critical Strike Damage by 60-100%
- Harlequin Crest (Helm): Gain 10-20% Damage Reduction. Gain +4 to all skills.
- Doombringer (One-handed Sword): Lucky Hit: Get a 15-25% chance to deal 5,822 Shadow Damage to surrounding enemies. Reduces damage done by enemies by 20% for 5 seconds.
- Melted Heart of Selig (Amulet): Gain 30% Maximum Resource whenever you take damage. Drain 8-3 Resource for every 1% of Life you’d have lost.
- Ring of Starless Skies (Ring): Each consecutive Core Skill that is cast reduces your net Core Skill’s Resource cost by 8-12% up to a maximum of 40%.
- Andariels’ Visage (Helm): Lucky Hit: Gain 15-20% chance to trigger a poison nova that deals 10,077 Poison damage for 5 seconds to enemies within it. The holder also gains 1.3-2% life steal.
Obtaining these Precious Items
So, how can you acquire these ultra-rare treasures? Jackson revealed the secret: luck. Whenever you obtain a Unique item, there is a chance for it to be one of these highly sought-after ultra-rares. Therefore, the most efficient way to obtain these six items is by engaging in content that yields a significant number of Uniques within a specific time frame. Unfortunately, there is no apparent way to grind for the Harlequin Crest or the remaining items. Obtaining one of them is akin to winning the lottery.
While Diablo 4 is not the first game in the series to feature ultra-rare items (remember Windforce?), it can be argued that previous games had more robust trading systems to obtain these items through the in-game economy. However, the six ultra-rare Uniques in Diablo 4 cannot be traded among players, eliminating this possibility entirely.
The fact that these Uniques are both underpowered and incredibly scarce in Diablo 4 has understandably generated criticism. If only a few dozen or a couple hundred players can ever obtain them throughout the entire game, what purpose do these items serve? In past games, acquiring The Grandfather or Andariels’ Visage, for example, was possible with time and effort, but Blizzard seems to have significantly reduced the drop rates in Diablo 4.
Perception Differs
While many Diablo 4 players are unhappy with the drop rates of these items, some appreciate the existence of these super rare Uniques. Finding them creates excitement within the community. Diablo 4 was designed to be a game that can be played for years or even decades. However, it should be noted that these Uniques have only recently surfaced, so it remains to be seen if Blizzard will adjust their drop rates in future updates.
