The Sims 5 will be free-to-play, according to this now-deleted job listing

The Sims 5: Rumored Free-to-Play Game

Recent rumors suggest that The Sims 5, the highly anticipated sequel in the popular simulation game series, will be free-to-play. This speculation stems from a now-deleted job listing on EA’s careers website that briefly mentioned a “free-to-enter” game associated with “Project Rene”, the codename for The Sims 5.

Although the job advertisement was swiftly taken down, screenshots of the listing were captured and can be viewed on the web archive site, Wayback Machine. The position being advertised was for a head of monetization and marketplace, responsible for driving revenue and creating a roadmap for the game’s monetization strategies.

While the exact details are unclear, the mention of a “free-to-enter” game has generated excitement among fans. It remains uncertain if the entire game will be free or if there will be in-game purchases available. This development marks a departure from the previous installments in the series, which required an upfront purchase.

The Sims 5, currently known as Project Rene during its prototyping phase, has yet to receive a release date or window. The game was only recently announced and is still in the early stages of development. Fans eagerly await updates on the game’s progress and features.

The Sims Legacy

The Sims series holds a special place in many players’ hearts, with its debut game becoming one of the biggest PC games ever. As the fifth installment, The Sims 5 has high expectations to meet. Early indications suggest that the game will offer enhanced customization options and possibly introduce multiplayer functionality, although details on these features are scarce.

During the Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event in October 2022, Maxis, the development studio, confirmed that they were working on the next generation of The Sims. Sydney Pearson, VP of franchise creative for The Sims, assured fans that updates on Project Rene would be shared periodically over the next couple of years. Additionally, selected groups of players will have the opportunity to participate in early access testing.
