Square Enix Cancels Just Cause: Mobile After Delays and Regional Early Access
Square Enix has made the decision to officially cancel Just Cause: Mobile following multiple delays and a limited regional early access program.
The announcement of Just Cause: Mobile was made at The Game Awards in 2021, alongside the reveal of a new Hitman game. Initially, the game was marketed as a free-to-play action shooter set in the Just Cause universe, offering 30-person competitive modes, a four-player co-op, and a single-player option.
However, Just Cause: Mobile faced numerous problems, particularly in terms of its release. Despite promising a 2021 release window, the game was repeatedly delayed. Ultimately, Square Enix was only able to launch the mobile game in Singapore as part of a regional early access program.
At the end of last year, Square Enix announced an indefinite delay for Just Cause: Mobile, which was followed by the termination of all regional early access in February 2022. While fans may be disappointed, there is still a silver lining as Just Cause 5 is currently in development, albeit with no confirmed release date.
The cinematic trailer for Just Cause: Mobile generated excitement with its action-packed sequences showcasing explosions, guns, and violence. However, it provided limited insight into the actual gameplay experience, leaving players in the dark about what to expect.
Ann-Lou Grosbois-Favreau, the brand lead, confirmed the cancellation of Just Cause: Mobile, stating, “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the end of development for Just Cause: Mobile. As of tomorrow, 3 July 2023, the game will no longer be available on digital stores. We understand that this news is difficult for our fans who have been eagerly awaiting the release, and we sincerely appreciate your support.”
Grosbois-Favreau also assured players that any Blue Diamonds purchased during the Regional Early Access had been fully refunded to their Google Play Accounts. Furthermore, all social media accounts associated with Just Cause: Mobile have been taken down without any farewell message to fans.
