16-bit sci-fi classic sequel Flashback 2 shows off its leafy parts in new trailer

Flashback 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the classic 16-bit sci-fi platformer, Flashback, is set to release before the end of 2023, an impressive 31 years after its initial launch. Developed by Microids, the new trailer offers a fresh glimpse into Flashback 2’s action, particularly the jungle settings, generating excitement among fans as the game approaches its November release date.

Originally released in 1992 to critical acclaim, Flashback captivated players with its futuristic storyline following agent Conrad B. Hart as he investigated shapeshifting aliens attempting to infiltrate human society. Like Delphine Software’s earlier game, Another World, Flashback featured stunning rotoscope animation in its platform-puzzler gameplay.

Flashback 2 dives back into the sci-fi universe of Conrad B. Hart, situated in the 22nd century, as he embarks on a new adventure in search of his friend Ian. Although it’s worth noting that Flashback 2 is not technically the first sequel to the game, as 1995 saw the release of the 3D follow-up, Fade to Black.

In April of this year, fans were treated to their first comprehensive look at Flashback 2’s gameplay. Now, Microids presents another enticing trailer, showcasing the jungle location in the sequel, which bears a striking resemblance to the iconic opening area of the original Flashback, but with improved three-dimensional visuals.

Scheduled for release in November, Flashback 2 is being developed by the creator of the original game, Paul Cuisset, in collaboration with Microids’ Lyon/Paris studios. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
