Introducing Two New Playable Fighters for Mortal Kombat 1: Smoke and Rain

NetherRealm has unveiled the addition of two more fighters to the Mortal Kombat 1 lineup: Smoke and Rain.

While it’s important to note that these characters could still be part of the Kameo roster, they have been confirmed as playable fighters in the Lin Kuei faction. A new gameplay trailer, released today, focuses on the Lin Kuei and showcases Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s efforts to establish this faction in Liu Kang’s rebooted Mortal Kombat universe. This sets the stage for Smoke and Rain to join the fray.

“With deep ties to Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Smoke has made the clan’s mission his own and joins his Lin Kuei brethren in defense of Earthrealm,” according to a press release. “The trailer also provides a first look at Rain, the High Mage of Outworld who has honed his craft of water magic into a fierce weapon and now hopes to learn the realm’s darkest and most powerful sorcery.”

Additionally, the trailer hints at the presence of Kameo fighters such as Sektor, Cyrax, Frost, and Scorpion.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to launch on September 19, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
