River City: Rival Showdown Announced for Consoles

The River City: Rival Showdown Gets Wider Release

River City: Rival Showdown, a retro brawler game originally launched on the 3DS in 2016, is now set to release on other platforms. Arc System Works has announced that the game will be available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC starting October 12, priced at $24.99.

The New Features of River City: Rival Showdown

The new version of River City: Rival Showdown, which is a remake of the first River City Ransom, will offer several enhancements. In addition to the main game, players can expect more settings, new attacks, online play, “tightened controls,” additional storylines, improved graphics, and a brand-new prequel story titled “Cold-Blooded Hardcore Yamada-kun.” In this prequel, players will control the evil boss Yamada and uncover his “dark machinations.” Special moves have also been upgraded to be more spectacular, although it is unclear whether this comparison is with the 3DS original or the original River City Ransom.

Furthermore, the port will include a new 2D fighting game-esque mode called Double Dragon Duel 2023, where two players can engage in combat. This mode is playable online and is labeled as an “all-new” experience, although details regarding its differences from the 3DS original are still unknown.

River City: Rival Showdown retains its original concept of taking place over a four-day period and offering multiple endings. The game is nonlinear and requires players to effectively manage their time in order to gain enough power and achieve victory.

Praised for its original release, River City: Rival Showdown received an average score of 77. The game was recently featured in an issue of Famitsu before its official announcement.
