Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown, the next installment in the popular open-world racing series, has faced another delay and is now set to release in “early 2024” on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Switch. However, there is also good news for eager fans as the long-awaited closed beta is scheduled to begin later this month.
Originally announced in 2020, Solar Crown has promised an impressive digital recreation of Hong Kong Island, complete with 550km of roads for players to race around. Initially, the game was slated for a September 2021 release across all platforms.
Unfortunately, in May 2022, publisher Nacon announced a delay, pushing the release to an unspecified date in 2023. Additionally, Nacon confirmed that development for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game would be discontinued in order to focus on optimizing the technology for the latest consoles and ensuring the highest quality possible.
Now, another year later, Nacon has once again delayed Solar Crown, revealing that the game is now expected to launch in “early 2024.” The reasons for this additional delay have not yet been disclosed by Nacon or developer KT Racing. This updated launch window was initially mentioned in a recent Nacon financial report and has been officially announced during the debut episode of KT Racing’s TDU Connect showcase, which also showcased roughly 25 minutes of intense head-to-head gameplay footage.
Fortunately, amidst the delay announcement, TDU Connect also revealed that the closed beta for Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown will finally commence later this month. The closed beta is scheduled to start on Monday, July 24th, and will run for three days. Those interested in exploring the digital streets of Hong Kong, engaging in thrilling races, and socializing with other players can sign up for a chance to participate in the closed beta on the Test Drive Unlimited website.
