Halls of Torment is known for its incredibly challenging dungeons, reminiscent of the Diablo series. One of the most intriguing characters you can unlock is the Cleric. While initially weak, the Cleric has the potential to become a formidable offensive powerhouse. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock the Cleric in Halls of Torment.
How to Unlock the Cleric in Halls of Torment
To gain access to the Cleric, you must first become familiar with the gameplay mechanics and progress through the game. The Cleric is a valuable recruit, but you won’t be able to use them until you defeat a boss. Specifically, in order to unlock the Cleric, you need to defeat the Lich in the Haunted Caverns.
Defeating the Lich requires careful preparation. Although he is the boss of the first dungeon you unlock, it’s not advisable to rush into battle expecting an easy victory. The Lich only appears when you have eight minutes remaining in your run. He attacks with powerful magic and summons wraiths to surround and attack you, all while dealing with standard mobs. The Lich is also surprisingly durable and can unleash devastating magic attacks, especially when you’re in close proximity to him.
If you want to make the battle with the Lich easier, weaken him by spilling enemy blood on two altars in the region. To do this, you must kill a significant number of enemies within the violet circles found near the altars. The enemies will drop fragments of the Token of Pain, which weakens the Lich once you encounter him. However, this step is optional and can be skipped if you prefer.
If you want an easier time defeating the Lich, utilize the exterminator character. If you haven’t unlocked the exterminator yet, refer to our guide on how to do so. The exterminator specializes in fire attacks that are particularly effective against late-game enemy waves, especially if you have improved your Fire Damage blessing and obtained suitable gear.
Once you have recruited the Cleric, you can unlock the powerful Radiant Aura ability by dealing 500,000 magic damage in a single run. This ability inflicts unavoidable damage periodically to everything within its radius. In addition, the Cleric attacks enemies with a broad projectile, although it does have a cooldown period between uses. You can overcome this limitation by enhancing your attack speed and activating abilities that compensate for the cooldown. The Cleric proves to be a valuable asset in your battles.
