Fireproof Games Celebrates 10th Anniversary of The Room with Month-Long Sale

Fireproof Games is gearing up for the tenth anniversary of its popular puzzle game, The Room, in September. To commemorate this milestone, the developer has announced a month-long sale of the entire series on mobile, Steam, and Switch.

The Room franchise has captured worldwide attention with its captivating storyline and intricate puzzles. The first game, simply titled The Room, has been downloaded over 18 million times across multiple platforms. It has also been recognized with prestigious awards such as Apple Game of the Year and the 2013 BAFTA award for Best British Game.

Barry Meade, co-founder of Fireproof Games, expressed the team’s gratitude to the player community, stating, “As a small independent game developer, the biggest joy of all is hearing the feedback from our players. Ten years on, we’re delighted to still be here to share a milestone moment with the fans who have given us so much.”

Influencing Game Design

The Room franchise has had a significant impact on puzzle game design, inspiring a wave of similar titles. Games like House of Da Vinci have followed suit by incorporating tactile touch screen experiences into their puzzles. Fireproof’s success with The Room series has propelled them to become one of the highest-rated developers across mobile, Steam, and Meta Quest. The company has even expanded into the realm of virtual reality with the release of The Room VR: A Dark Matter, bridging the gap between mobile gaming and VR.

Anticipating a surge in downloads, Fireproof Games hopes to continue its impressive track record with this sale. The first two games in the series experienced high downloads during their initial years, thanks to substantial discounts. Notably, the original game, developed on a budget of just £160,000 ($203,103), garnered nearly seven million downloads as of October 2016 and contributed to the impressive revenue of $3.3 million generated by each of the first three games within a year of their respective releases.

To entice players, the sale will offer discounts ranging from 80% to 85% on the first two games from September 1 to September 2022.
