Hideo Kojima details how the pandemic completely changed Death Stranding 2

Hideo Kojima reveals how COVID-19 pandemic affected the story of Death Stranding 2

In an interview with Japanese outlet Natalie, Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Snatcher, discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the story of Death Stranding 2. Kojima explained that the sequel’s plot was written prior to the pandemic but had to be completely rewritten due to its effects.

Before the pandemic, Death Stranding 2 had a different direction, focusing on connections. However, Kojima felt that the concept of “connection” alone would not lead to fulfilling human lives. The isolation and division brought about by the pandemic made him reconsider the idea of “connection,” leading to a change in the meaning of “strand” in Death Stranding 2.

The sequel will now explore the consequences of being connected in a post-pandemic world and examine how our world has changed. It will amplify these events within the fictitious post-America setting of Death Stranding 2.

No release date has been announced for Death Stranding 2, as it is still in the early stages of development. It is expected to be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in the coming years. If Kojima succeeds in delivering the game, it could potentially become one of the best PS5 or Xbox Series X games.
