Baldur’s Gate 3 – Where to Find a Shovel
To fully explore the vast world of Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to interact with various characters, objects, and landscapes. Sometimes, you’ll come across dirt mounds that are clearly points of interest. However, to interact with them, you’ll require a shovel. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find a shovel in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Where to Find the Shovel
To dig through dirt mounds, you need a shovel. Fortunately, you don’t have to progress far into the game to acquire one. The first shovel can be found along the northern part of the Overgrown Ruins, specifically at the Chapel Entrance.
When you start the game, you find yourself on the Mindflayer ship. After clearing that initial area, you crash land on a beach. Head north along the beach until you encounter Shadowheart, and potentially join forces with her if you managed to rescue her in the previous area. Continue along the beach until you reach the Ancient Door. Although it’s locked, there is a waypoint just ahead that you should activate.
A rock archway grants access to a path leading southwest from the waypoint. Follow this path until you come across a man named Astarion standing along the hillside. You can recruit him if you wish and then travel northeast, passing the unstable rune. Proceed in that direction until you reach the southern edge of the Chapel Entrance.
Climb the steps and pass through the opening, triggering a scene involving Gimblebock and other treasure hunters. You can either engage in combat with them or resolve the situation through conversation. Afterward, head north toward a door at the back side of the ruins, past some vines that try to grab your feet. Just to the right of the door, you’ll find the Shovel lying on the ground. The precise location is shown on the map screenshot above.
Now that you have the shovel, you are equipped to dig up any dirt mounds you encounter during your journey.
