Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 has preloading, unlike PC

Baldur’s Gate 3 is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 next month and players can now preload the game, according to an announcement from Larian Studios.

Starting on September 4 at 16:00 UTC / 5pm BST / 9am PDT / 12pm EDT, players who pre-ordered the standard edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be able to install and preload the game two days before its official launch on September 6.

For those who pre-ordered the digital deluxe version, they will have even earlier access to Act One of the game on September 2. Preloading for the digital deluxe version begins on August 31 at 16:00 UTC / 5pm BST / 9am PDT / 12pm EDT.

PC players, on the other hand, were not able to preload the game and had to install the massive 122GB game on the day of its release.

The original release date for both the PC and PS5 versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 was September 6. However, Larian Studios decided to move the PC release forward to August 3 to avoid competing with the highly-anticipated launch of Starfield.

Since its launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen immense success, quickly becoming one of Steam’s biggest games ever during its opening weekend. It has also received glowing reviews, solidifying its position as one of the best-reviewed games of 2023.

Swen Vincke, the game director and CEO of Larian Studios, expressed his pride in the team’s achievements and stated that the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 allows the studio to continue creating more games like it.

“So proud of my team – none of us can believe this is really happening,” Vincke said.  “But the greatest thing about all of this is that we can continue to make games like this.”
