Exploring the Options for Removing the Parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3
When it comes to removing the parasite in Baldur’s Gate 3, there are numerous options available. However, not all of them are worthwhile or effective. One option is to visit a Creche of Lae’zel’s Githyanki people, who claim to be able to remove the parasite. The first opportunity to visit a Creche in the game is at Zaith’isk. But is this the right choice?
What Happens When You Use the Zaith’Isk?
After the initial introduction, your party will guide themselves to the infirmary where the Zaith’isk is located. To use it, you need to speak to Ghustil Stornugoss first. When you are ready to use the machine, Lae’zel insists on going first, although it doesn’t make a difference in the outcome.
Lae’zel Uses the Zaith’Isk
If you choose to let Lae’zel use the Zaith’Isk before you, things will go bad almost immediately. An insight check will warn you that she won’t come out of it unscathed, indicating that it’s not a desirable outcome. Additionally, letting her go through with it results in her receiving three permanent debuffs: Weakened Intelligence, Weakened Wisdom, and Weakened Constitution. The machine will explode regardless of the choice, but neither Lae’zel nor your main character will be harmed by the explosion.
Is the Zaith’Isk Safe?
The Zaith’Isk is clearly unsafe if you allow Lae’zel to use it. It’s not worth the risk and the negative consequences she experiences.
However, if you choose to use the Zaith’Isk yourself and successfully pass the three saving throws, there is a positive outcome. You will gain the Awakened passive feature, which allows you to use all of your Illithid Powers as a bonus action.
All Zaith’Isk Outcomes
All outcomes result in the Zaith’Isk exploding, as it turns out to be another false hope for parasite removal. However, how you handle the aftermath of the explosion can make a significant difference.
If you are able to convince Ghustil Stornugoss through Performance or Deception that the parasite is gone, she will simply tell you to leave. On the other hand, if she believes the parasite is still present, she will leave and lock the door. Eventually, you will come under siege by several Githyanki enemies outside the infirmary. This will lead to an extensive fight, so be prepared after the doctor departs.
Considering all of these outcomes, it may be best to postpone using the Zaith’Isk or reconsider using it at all. While there is a beneficial bonus for completing the process, the subsequent battles may make it less worthwhile.
