Blizzard has acknowledged the “dissatisfaction” among players following the release of Overwatch 2 on Steam last month. The game faced heavy review-bombing, resulting in the lowest-ever user score on Steam.
The aggregate user score has continued to decline since the launch, now sitting at a dismal 0.94 out of 10. This places it below other games like Redfall, eFootball, and Battlefield 2042, which also received negative feedback upon release.
“We recently launched on Steam, and although being review-bombed is not a pleasant experience, it’s encouraging to see a surge of new players joining Overwatch 2,” commented Aaron Keller from Blizzard in a post on the game’s official website. “Our aim with Overwatch 2 has always been to make it more accessible than ever, attracting a wider audience.”
Keller acknowledges that many negative reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of a major PvE component, which was announced in 2019, as a primary reason for dissatisfaction. He sympathizes with those concerns. “That announcement was about an ambitious project that we couldn’t ultimately deliver,” Keller added.
While Blizzard cannot reverse time, Keller believes the only way forward is to keep progressing. “We can continue to expand and improve Overwatch 2. That’s how we move forward. It means introducing more maps, heroes, game modes, missions, stories, events, cosmetics, and features—a constantly evolving and enhancing game. This is the future of Overwatch, where we consistently create and innovate to maintain the game’s greatness for our current players.”
“Overwatch is a truly unique gaming experience and world. When our heroes collaborate to achieve an objective, there’s nothing quite like it. Join in—the best is yet to come!”
Recently, it was discovered that John Cena had been making appearances as a “mysterious hacker,” intruding into the content streams of notable Overwatch 2 creators. If you’ve been following Overwatch 2 news, you may have noticed a hooded figure appearing in streams with well-known streamers such as Kyedae, Scump, and Shroud.
“Overwatch 2: Invasions is now officially available and playable. Although the three missions are well-designed and enjoyable, I can’t help but feel that something is missing,” wrote Elie in their feature titled “Overwatch 2: Invasions is great fun, but where’s the rest of it?”
“Overwatch 2 Season 6 not only introduces a new omnic-themed Battle Pass but also includes three new story missions. Each mission follows a group of Overwatch heroes working together to combat the new omnic crisis threatening the world.”
