How to Summon a Golem in Diablo 4

If you’re looking to surround yourself with an army of minions in Diablo 4, the Necromancer class is the way to go. While the Druid can transform into a beast and have a couple of wolf companions, the Necromancer has the quintessential ‘pet’ build with undead minions. However, summoning a Golem in Diablo 4 isn’t as straightforward as it should be. In this guide, we’ll show you how to summon a Golem in Diablo 4.

How to Summon a Golem in Diablo 4

Firstly, it’s important to note that only the Necromancer class can summon Golems. At level 5, the Necromancer unlocks the class-specific enhancement called the Book of the Dead, which allows for the summoning of minions. After reaching level 25, you can undertake a quest called ‘Necromancer: Call of the Underworld,’ and upon completion, the Golem becomes available. Make sure to select the Golem in the Book of the Dead to enable it.

However, there’s a confusing aspect to using the Golem. You need to add it to your skill bar, but the game lacks a clear explanation of how to do that.

If you’re playing on a PC, press ‘S’ on your keyboard to bring up the ‘Skill Assignment Flyout.’ The highlighted icon in the image above represents the Golem. Simply drag it onto your Skill Bar, and you’ll be able to use Golems whenever you want.

If you’re playing on a controller, access your Skill Tree in your inventory and press the left stick. This will open the Skill Assignment menu, where you can assign the Golem to your Skill Bar. Make sure you’re not on the Paragon page, as pressing the left stick will open your Glyph menu instead.

Does this mean I lose a skill slot if I want to summon a Golem?

In Diablo 4, the Skill Bar has limitations, and unfortunately, the Golem occupies one of those slots. This is likely the reason why you don’t see many Necromancers with minions on the world map. If you summon a Golem and then replace the skill, the Golem will immediately despawn, so there’s no way to cheat the system.

If you find the skill slot too valuable to sacrifice for the Golem, you can choose to sacrifice the Golem in the Book of the Dead instead. This will grant you a 30% increased Critical Strike damage, although it may not be as visually impressive as having a hulking beast by your side.
