Nintendo Announces Mario Red Edition Nintendo Switch OLED Console
Nintendo has unveiled the Mario Red Edition Nintendo Switch OLED console, which is set to release on October 6, 2023. The console is available for pre-order now directly from Nintendo for $349.99.
Announced during the recent Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct, this newest addition to the Nintendo Switch OLED lineup follows the game’s release schedule, launching two weeks ahead of Wonder. For Mario and Nintendo enthusiasts, this presents an ideal opportunity to upgrade to the OLED version or get their hands on one of the best handheld gaming consoles available.
Mario Red Design
The Mario Red Edition Nintendo Switch console stays true to its namesake with both the dock and the Joy-Cons featuring the iconic red color scheme. Rather than going overboard, the design maintains an understated aesthetic. The dock showcases a silhouette of Mario in the bottom left-hand corner, while the rear I/O displays a group of golden coins, offering subtle details.
Similar to previous custom console variants for high-profile Nintendo Switch games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Mario Red Edition does not include a physical or downloadable copy of the game. The console is currently available for pre-purchase on the My Nintendo Store in the US for $349.99, and availability in the UK and Australia is expected soon.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a highly anticipated game for fans of classic 2D platformer action. It has been 10 years since the last official mainline release, with New Super Mario Bros. U hitting the shelves digitally and physically in 2013. Although a Nintendo Switch port was released in early 2019, fans have been eagerly awaiting a wholly original Mario game. Teaming the game with this special console design is the perfect way to mark its return.
