Pokémon Go Charmander Community Day Classic guide

Pokémon Go Charmander Community Day Classic Event: Everything You Need to Know

Pokémon Go is hosting a Charmander Community Day Classic event on September 2nd from 2-5 p.m. in your local time zone. During this special event, Charmander will appear in large numbers, giving you a high chance to encounter shiny versions of the beloved Pokémon. In addition to increased Charmander spawns, there are several other bonuses and perks that you won’t want to miss out on. Here’s what you need to know:

How to Catch a Shiny Charmander

According to research from the now-defunct website The Silph Road, the shiny rate during Community Days is approximately 1 in 24. This means that if you actively play the game throughout the three-hour event, you should have multiple opportunities to catch shiny Charmander. To increase your chances, consider using Incense and quickly checking each Charmander you encounter for its shiny form. Remember that previously tapped Charmander will face your location, making it easy to identify the ones you’ve already checked.

Charmander’s Community Day Move

If you evolve Charmeleon into Charizard between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in your local time zone, it will learn the fast attack Dragon Breath and the charged move Blast Burn. If you miss this window of opportunity, there will likely be a Community Day weekend event in December where you can evolve Charizard and obtain these exclusive moves. Alternatively, you can use an Elite TM to teach Charizard these moves before or after the event.

Charizard’s Role in the Meta

While Charizard and its Mega variations may not be at the top of the attacker tier lists anymore, Mega Charizard Y remains a powerful fire-type Pokémon in the meta. For PvE content, it is recommended to set up your Charizard with the Fire Spin fast attack and Blast Burn charged-move combination. If you have the ability to Mega Evolve Charizard into Mega Charizard Y, you’ll have one of the best fire-type attackers in the game.

In PvP battles, Charizard still has its uses. For better type coverage and energy regeneration, it is advised to give Charizard the Wing Attack fast attack along with Blast Burn and Dragon Claw charged moves. However, please note that Wing Attack is a legacy move, and you’ll need an Elite TM to teach it to Charizard.

Maximizing Your Charmander Community Day Experience

During the Charmander Community Day event, the following bonuses will be active:

  • Triple Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours

Make the most of these bonuses by activating a Star Piece and an Incense, thus increasing your Stardust and Pokémon encounters. If you have access to Mega Evolutions, such as Charizard, Houndoom, or Blaziken, catching Charmander during this event will reward you with additional Charmander Candy per catch.
