European Mobile Gaming Market: August 2023 Analysis

The European mobile gaming market for August 2023 has been analyzed by analytics company Diandian.

Google Play

  • Royal Match by Dream Games claimed the top spot for downloads, rising two places. Roblox came in second place, followed by a new entry called Roblock Gym Clicker: Tap Hero in third place. Tic Tac Toe – 2 Player XO saw a significant rise of 73 places to claim fourth place, while Stumble Guys rounded out the top five with a rise of 20 places.

iOS

  • Scopely’s Monopoly GO! maintained its position as the top downloaded game on iOS with over 3.9 million downloads. Royal Match secured third place, while Subway Surfers and Roblox fell two places each to claim fourth and fifth place, respectively.

  • My Perfect Hotel experienced an impressive rise of 154 places to claim second place on iOS. It narrowly missed a spot in the top ten, reaching number 11 after a total rise of 187 places.

Diandian notes that Europe, being the birthplace of many well-known hypercasual developers like Rovio and Supercell, is a fertile ground for casual games compared to markets such as Japan, South Korea, and North America. Given the success of My Perfect Hotel in North America, its success in Europe comes as no surprise.

Furthermore, the report highlights that the success of My Perfect Hotel has temporarily validated the mixed casual gameplay strategy in developed regions like Europe, despite the declining popularity of the ultracasual genre.

August also witnessed several Vietnamese studios achieving prominent positions in the European market. Roblock Gym Clicker, Merge War, and Gangster Crime all made their debut in the top 20 most downloaded games on the Google Play charts.

The Top Revenue Generators

  • Coin Master retained its position as the highest earner on both iOS and Google Play, followed by Candy Crush in second place. Interestingly, the most downloaded games on both platforms, Monopoly GO! and Royal Match, each rose two spots to claim third place on iOS and Google Play, respectively.

  • Coin Master was particularly successful on the App Store, generating over $37.06 million in Europe during August, with iOS accounting for 74.5% of the revenue.

  • Whiteout Survival experienced the highest rise among the top 20 games on both platforms. It climbed 13 spots on Google Play, reaching number 15, and 12 spots on the App Store, reaching number 12. The game generated revenue exceeding $7.45 million in August.
